Drew was the Project Manager responsible for D&C Contractor Procurement, as well as the Superintendent for this project. The project involved the delivery of a 12 storey purpurse built student accommodation facility in Carlton providing 242 apartments with 345 beds, and a heritage facade refurbishment.
Designed by DKO incorporating effective modular architecture, the structure utilised pretensioned precast permanent formwork (ultrafloor) and bondek to to expedite the construction of a post-tension-free structure.
Bulk procurement strategies saw overseas sourcing for repetitive cabinetry and joinery, as well as FFE optimizing cost-effectiveness.
Local prefabricated bathroom pods resulted in time and cost savings for the client, while mitigating quality risks associated with ensuite wet areas through controlled manufacturing in a purpose-built offsite facility.

Drew served as both the Project Manager and Superintendent for this endeavor. The project entailed designing and constructing a 21-storey student accommodation building, inclusive of one basement level, while preserving the heritage facade along Elizabeth Street in Melbourne.
The building comprises 191 single-bed studio apartments, along with a variety of multi-bedroom and duplex apartments, providing a total of 335 beds.
DKO, the architectural firm, crafted the design to harmonize with the adjacent Pelham St building, with the ground floor connecting the two structures to offer students collaborative spaces, communal zones, and access to services.
Early works, including demolition and basement retention, were contracted to Delta Group under Drew's oversight until novation to the main works contractor was feasible. This approach allowed the client to commence construction while finalizing the design, ensuring adherence to minimum design documentation standards without compromising the project timeline.
Bulk procurement opportunities, both domestically and internationally, were leveraged by the client.
The project presented challenges due to limited on-site space and the building's boundary-to-boundary structure. Custom gantries with site sheds and ablutions were deployed along both street frontages until the contractor could transition indoors. Jump form and peri skydeck formwork systems were utilized for their rapid forming capabilities, lightweight design, high strength, and minimal on-site material requirements.
